Wish list

Everyone I know seems to have their holiday shopping already underway, while I am still a bit dazed that Thanksgiving is already here.  While I haven’t started my gift shopping, I’ve at least started thinking about gifts for loved ones — and I have a few items on my mind I that would love, too!  Here’s a little peek of what I’m dreaming of finding under the tree, both fantastical dream splurges and more modest wish items alike.

linjer_doctors_bag

This lovely Doctors bag by Linjer looks like just the right size.  Clean, classic, easy.  Love it.

le_labo_rose_31

Le Labo Rose 31 is a fragrance I discovered at their shop while wandering a bit in Seattle.  This woodsy, mysterious take on a traditional rose scent is addicting, and I think I’ll need a bottle once my carefully-rationed sample vial is finished.

lv_catogram_speedy

I fell hard for the Louis Vuitton Catogram Speedy as soon as I saw the launch of Grace Coddington’s collaboration.  The cat and dog illustrations are just too adorable for words.

nisolo_chelsea_boot

I’ve been intrigued by Nisolo for a while, and this stylish Chelsea boot seems like an ideal way to get to know this brand.  I really admire their ethical production practices.

While I was initially unsure I’d want or need an Apple watch, I’ve grown to really love mine.  It is so much more discreet to get notifications via a tap on the wrist rather than a buzzing phone on my desk.  The sleek new 40mm Series 4 and a pretty leather band are on my list, as I am sure it will wildly outstrip my Series 1 in functionality.

stoned_book_cover

I stumbled upon Stoned: Architects, Designers & Artists on the Rocks in a shop recently, and was smitten with the gorgeous photos in this tome.  One can never have enough books as far as I am concerned, especially when they are as beautiful as this.

baleen_herkimer_earring

I’m as in love as ever with my Baleen earrings, and wear them all the time.  Their rose Herkimer studs are just the right sort of undone take on a traditional diamond stud, and I’d love to have these beauties in my rotation as well.

rifle_paper_2019_worldtraveler_calendar

And finally, I love starting each year fresh with a new calendar.  Rifle Paper Co.’s World Traveler calendar would be the perfect way to remember favorite trips as well as inspire (and maybe schedule) new ones.

Bravo!

universal_standard_foundation

Today Universal Standard launched their most inclusive collection yet: Foundation.  I know I have mentioned US a couple of times before, but in case you are new to the brand, they have been doing amazing things to improve inclusion in women’s fashion in the last couple years.  With Foundation, they are even closer to their goal of breaking down existing barriers and giving all women fashion freedom.  US is now offering 7 new wardrobe basics from size 00 to size 40, with each being custom designed for fit and comfort.  I find their attitude and aspirations so inspiring!  Not only are they offering clothes for as the widest range of sizes, ages, and body types that I know of, but they are thinking hard about good fit, good construction, and great style in the process.  Bravo, US!  You are a much-needed voice in the fashion world.

Swooning

I.  Love.  This.  Jacket.  It’s new at J. Crew for fall.  And it’s already sold out!  My heart!

I’ve always had a soft spot for leopard, so I’ve been very excited to see it gaining traction again this fall.  This velvet blazer has everything I want, from a lovely rose hue to a not–too-big, not-too-small print to a soft, easy drape.  I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that it gets restocked…

ETA: I called J. Crew, and a very kind associate said they did, in fact, have my size available!  I’m so excited!  If you love this jacket as much as I do, try calling to order.  Maybe you’ll get lucky as well.

Fall home inspiration

Anthropologie has debuted their fall home line in stores, and it is full of inspiring hues and textiles.  They’ve got me very excited about velvet and jewel tones!  Here are a few of my favorite vignettes from the Anthropologie & Co. fall home launch event, if you’d like to see.  I especially like the way they’ve incorporated lux fall fabrics with more all-season items — it’s an approachable way to decorate your home, and most of us do not start from scratch every season!  There were so many pieces I’d love to have in my own home, perhaps especially that gorgeous blue velvet sofa, and those oversized prints and wall hangings.  Enjoy!

Almost autumn

While it is still warm here, by mid-September my thoughts always turn towards autumn.  Fond back-to-school shopping memories bubble up, with sweaters and corduroy and new jeans just begging for cooler weather to make their debut.  Even though I’m not in school anymore, shopping this time of year has such a nice nostalgia element to it!  I picked out a few new staples recently in honor of fall, and plan to incorporate them bit by bit as the weather allows.  Honestly, though, can’t wait to wear them all together — latte in hand on a crisp fall afternoon.

I’m always a fan of leopard, so I’m excited to see it getting more traction again.  These loafers are perfection.  And the softest cardigan in a mossy green, an excellent pair of skinny jeans, and a cute backpack to schlep my things in day-to-day?  Not a bad way to kick off fall, if I do say so myself.

(By the way, major kudos to Madewell.  Not only have they been offering a wider range of sizes, but they are also currently offering samples in store to try on for sizes that are normally only offered online.  Definitely a step in the right direction.)

Living in lately

It’s been hot and unusually humid, so constricting denim has been last on my list.  I found the perfect pair of wide-leg jeans, though, that are breezy enough that I have been wearing them constantly.  The most flattering, perfectly soft tee, wide-leg jeans, sandals, and my old Coach Bleecker duffle have been my late summer uniform.  Oh, and pretty gold earrings, just for fun.

Jump(er) for joy

I am rather late to the party, but I have finally joined in on the jumpsuit trend.  It took me ages to find anything that fit and I felt good in, but now I am the proud owner of not one, but three (!) jumpers.  They make getting dressed a breeze — one and done — and they dress up or down nicely.  Here are the ones I wound up with, below:

wide leg  kimono sleeve  side tie

It it notoriously difficult to find well-cut clothing in larger sizes, so it feels like that much more of a victory to find clothes I am happy in.   I am pleased to see more brands widening their size ranges, though, and am hopeful it will continue.  Women come in far more shapes and sizes than the runway ideal, and we should all be able to feel confident — every day.

Lustrous

anne_sisteron_bar_pearl_tori_ring_modeled

As much as I find the culture (ha!) of pearls fascinating, I am rarely drawn to pearl jewelry myself.  I think perhaps it usually seems overly fussy to me, or too fancy for my everyday life.  However, today I stumbled upon Anne Sisteron‘s beautiful jewelry, and I am all kinds of smitten.  While she has lovely designs in all manner of gold and gemstone combinations, it is her pearl rings I have fallen hard for.  To me they are the perfect combination of minimal and sculptural, delicate yet noticeable.  Considering my birthday is just around the corner, I may or may not have placed an order.

Born in Paris and currently an Angeleno, Sisteron’s model background clearly honed her eye for style and line.  Her jewelry mixes classic and contemporary in a very LA way that I love.  Here are some of my favorites:
