I love a dash of whimsy in a space, especially in subtle, unexpected ways.  Lately I am loving quirky animal accents, and if it’s brass-toned, so much the better!

I fell for this charming little mallard mirror years ago when I saw it in Kim and Scott’s beautiful bathroom.  It was such a fun touch in a classic room, and I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

Fast forward a couple years and this quirky lamp had to be mine.  It lives on my dresser, and makes me smile every time I see it.

Likewise for these Farmkeep knobs from Anthropologie — I have the goose and hare on our nightstand drawers, and they are so adorable!  They have since sold out, but these bunny-ear knobs or sleeping foxes are equally great options.

Most recent to capture my heart?  This beautiful brass bird side table.  This is a slightly less spendy option, but I love the webbed feet on the first one so much!  It is currently in my living room, and I am having great fun trying to find just the right spot for it.  It feels equal parts glam and fanciful — perfect.

Pendant lighting has been having a real moment of late.  Pendants are classic and versatile, and with so many beautiful choices these days, you can easily find something to refresh your space.  Here are five I am currently coveting:

This lovely milk glass option is feminine in all the right ways.  It would add just the right touch of Parisian flair to a breakfast nook.

A sleek nude nude pendant with Scandi vibes can make a quiet statement wherever you might hang it.

Alabaster combined with a faceted bulb makes for a glam and alluring option.  I’d love to see a pair of these flanking a velvet headboard in a bedroom.

Cement’s industrial edge is tempered by warm wood in this visually well-balanced choice.

This petite pink cylinder pendant is right on-trend with it’s blush hue and diminutive size.  A row of three of these over a kitchen island would be beautiful AND functional — and they’re a great price to boot.

A friend and her husband have just moved into a new apartment, airy and bright and complete with a white brick fireplace.  Their last place came furnished, I should mention, so they are starting almost from scratch in their new home.  She has a great eye and loves a clean, Scandi sort of feel, with soothing neutrals and lots of plants.  Since I love pulling together a space, here are some of the ideas I’ve floated her way.

Mid-century and Scandinavian pieces in a mix of wood tones with neutral-colored textiles give a collected feel while still soothing the eye.  A variety of textures (caning, tufting, leather, jute) keep things just interesting enough.  Add a tonal rug that skews somewhere between traditional and beachy California cool, and you’ve got a layered space ready to relax in.  Maybe try stacking some beautiful design books on the coffee table?  With an equally beautiful candle?  (Here’s one to try.)  And don’t forget tons of planters and vases to bring in ALL the greenery.

Since they have so much to buy all at once, I tried to skew on the end of readily available and relatively inexpensive, without sacrificing beauty and function (looking at you, sofa and leather pouf — swoon).  Enjoy!
